A solid sea yarn from the silent era gets regal treatment from Kino on Blu-Ray, featuring an impressive transfer of the original two-strip Technicolor print and yet another film geek history lesson commentary from Rudy Behlmer.

DVD Review: BARDELYS THE MAGNIFICENT / MONTE CRISTO

The memory of silent screen star John Gilbert is not helped at all by the fact that so many of his pictures are no longer extant. But this new set from Flicker Alley helps correct that, with recently-discovered prints of two of Gilbert's major films, which happen to be the only ones of these films known to exist. We're very lucky indeed to have these long-hidden classics unearthed and brought to DVD in lovely restorations.

DVD Review: BELOVED ROGUE

The Vagabond Poet, François Villon (1431-1463), was certainly a notorious figure, though details of his life remain murky and uncertain (even his real name is unknown for sure). But this biopic takes the legend and runs with it, turning Villon into a combination of Don Juan and Robin Hood, with a healthy helping of the Scarlet Pimpernel, featuring John Barrymore in the title role.

DVD Review: TERMINATOR 2: JUDGMENT DAY (BLU-RAY)

One of the great sci-fi/action movies of all-time gets yet another repackaging, this time with a nice looking BD transfer, a pair of audio mixes that will rock the foundation and a ton of extras from versions past.

The film is highly recommended, though here it's not necessarily a double-dip candidate. But if you've held off this long this is definitely the version to get.
