DVD Review THE ROYAL TENENBAUMS (BLU-RAY)

It doesn't matter to me one bit that this Criterion Blu-Ray of Wes Anderson's colorfully brilliant The Royal Tenenbaums has the same extras as their 2002 SD release because the new director-approved transfer is quite simply: stunning.

Highly recommended - and one of the best Blu-Rays of 2012.

DVD Review DAVID LEAN DIRECTS NOEL COWARD (BLU-RAY)

Criterion's Blu-Ray boxset of four David Lean/Noel Coward films from the 1940s is a winner on all fronts. The films are a varied lot in terms of storylines - ranging from war's brutalities to family drama to playful ghosts to extramarital affairs, but each are awash in Coward's raw wordplay and Lean's visual talents.

You may not walk away from this necessarily liking Robert Crumb the person, but it is impossible to deny the guy's undeniable talent as an artist. This one is both fascinating and depressing on countless levels.
