In the period between American Bandstand and MTV, several shows tried to bring rock 'n' roll to television. In the wake of Elvis Presley and the Beatles' debut on The Ed Sullivan Show, '60s series like Hullabaloo, Shindig and The Music Scene featured rock and pop performers. But it wasn't until The Midnight Special premiered on August 19, 1972, that rock 'n' roll found its own home on the air.
DVD Review GRAY'S ANATOMY (BLU-RAY)
I haven't seen this wonderful film since its first home video release, and I can't wait to relive that experience all over again. Steven Soderbergh has come a long way since, but this is still regarded as one of his best works.
In the 1970s, Steve Martin exploded onto the national scene with a brand of comedy that was so anti-hip it was ueber hip. But before he turned into a movie star, he'd cemented his legend as a television star and stand-up comedian. Now, for the first time, Martin's long in-demand television specials and stand-up comedy performances -- along with a 24-page booklet and bonus features -- will have you laughing all over again!
John Mellencamp has scored dozens of Top 40 hits, has been Grammy-nominated 13 times, and is a member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, but not even his biggest fans have seen the artist revealed in the intimate music documentary John Mellencamp: It's About You. The movie, which follows the singer on tour and in the recording studio, comes to high-definition, audio-enhanced Blu-ray and DVD.
This film traces the astonishing musical journey of Neil Young from the day he first heard Elvis to his most recent offerings, via the above named and numerous others who assisted in his creation of, arguably, the finest body of work to emerge during the rock era.
The hit musical television series now has more Billboard Magazine Hot 100 chart entries than any other artist, topping Elvis Presley and James Brown. This full-length DVD features a set list of Season One's most sensational musical numbers – back to back so the party never has to end! Experience all your favorite hit songs by Lady Gaga, Madonna, Journey, and much more.
An 11-hour celebration of the six-string that attracted a sold-out crowd of more than 27,000 music fans to Chicago's Toyota Park. All profits from this daylong display of guitar virtuosity benefited The Crossroads Centre in Antigua, a treatment and education facility Clapton founded to help people suffering from chemical dependency.
Originally released as a limited run via iTunes in 2008 to commemorate the 20th anniversary of his passing, The Last Concert is now available on CD for the first time. Recorded on December 4, 1988 in Cincinnati, just two days before his sudden death, this was the last time Roy ever performed. This collection of fourteen songs, including seven top ten singles, is the exact order of his show that evening.
DVD Review ELVIS: RETURN TO TUPELO
The King in his infancy.
It was a magical night, a great vibe and I think this captures it beautifully! All in all - it's a good-humoured romp! To relive the full horror of my life, there's bonus material of some classic diary monologues too. If you were there (at the gig, I mean), you can relive the experience. If you weren't and you'd like to hear some stripped-bare, intimate performances of my favourite songs, then this is for you. - Steve Hogarth
