In 1997, the Digimon franchise was launched, evolving from a popular digital toy to an adventure-packed feature film, multiple TV series and more. Fast forward 17 years and the Japanese retro creation has continued to build on its international popularity. The Official Digimon Adventure Set: The Complete Second Season is commonly referred to as Digimon Zero Two, it finds most of the original characters now in junior high school, with the Digital World supposedly secure and peaceful. I had very low expectations for this and the experience ended up falling just about where I figured it would. But the image transfer? Flawless.

Criterion pays long overdue scholarly homage to one of the classic monsters in all of cinema, and the inclusion of both the original 1954 Japanese film and the laughable 1956 American "reworking" only reinforces the fact that you have not seen Godzilla until you have seen Ishiro Honda's somber cautionary tale of H-bomb testing and the giant monster destruction it awakens.

Highly recommended.
