Article HBO's Game Change Comes Up a Bit Short

Highly anticipated, Game Change ultimately falls flat, but not because it is not entertaining enough in a superficial way. The story of Sarah from Alaska and her ascension to the national stage is an unpleasant story of unpleasant people trying to do very unpleasant things. Maybe playing it for real laughs would have redeemed it.

I'm not sure if this is going to be a bona fide documentary film, or simply an extended propaganda piece for the legalization of hemp, but with Woody Harrelson on board, it promises to at least be interesting.

This lively documentary, directed by Michael Henning and produced by Diana Oliver, explores the reasons why the United States is the only developed country that still bans the growth of Industrial Hemp. Hemp, which is a durable fiber cultivated from plants of the cannabis genus, can be used for paper, textiles, biodegradable plastics, construction, health food and fuel. Due to its relation to marijuana, it is illegal to grow in the U.S. under Federal law. Hemp is considered a controlled substance under the Controlled Substances Act even though it contains minimum levels of Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC).

DVD Review THE THIN RED LINE (BLU-RAY)

He may not be prolific, but as a director each of Terrence Malick's films stand as uniquely rewarding sensory experiences, and this 1998 adaptation of James Jones' anti war novel is no exception. With Criterion's exceptional 1080p transfer and rewarding extras, this may very well be "the" release of 2010.

Highly recommended.
