BRIDGEPORT, Conn. -- Sept. 1, 2012 -- For Immediate Release -- Transferred from the original 35mm film, Suddenly shoots onto Blu-ray Oct. 16, from Film Chest on the HD Cinema Classics label.
It's not every day the president comes to town... When he makes a stop in sleepy Suddenly, Calif., things liven up after a possible assassination attempt comes to light.
In a house atop a hill overlooking the train station where the president will arrive, three gangsters, led by John Baron (Frank Sinatra, From Here to Eternity, The Manchurian Candidate, On the Town), have taken hostages Pop Benson (James Gleason, The Night of the Hunter, Arsenic and Old Lace, Meet John Doe), his daughter Ellen (Nancy Gates, Some Came Running, World Without End) and her son Peter III, a.k.a. "Pidge" (Kim Charney, The Werewolf, Man From God's Country).
Local sheriff Tod Shaw (Sterling Hayden, The Godfather, Dr. Strangelove, The Asphalt Jungle) and Secret Service agent Dan Carney (Willis Bouchey, The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance, The Big Heat, Pickup on South Street) are pitted against Baron, who's determined not to let anyone stand in his way.
Commented Phil Hopkins and Ralph Stevens, co-owners of Film Chest, "We're thrilled to finally make available a near-perfect print of a long-forgotten classic. The restoration came out beautifully. Another great feature is the audio commentary along with liner notes by Tom Santopietro, one of the leading authorities on the films of Frank Sinatra. His critically acclaimed book, Sinatra in Hollywood, is a must read for all Sinatra fans. We're delighted to have him involved in the project and feel this will add tremendous insight for both classic movie lovers and Sinatra fans."
Restored from the original 35mm film elements, Suddenly has been transferred into high definition and 5.1 audio mix utilizing state-of-the-art scanning technology. Available for the first time on Blu-ray in a bonus two-disc DVD combo pack.
Suddenly is presented in full screen with an aspect ratio of 4 x 3 and original sound with 5.1 surround sound mix. Special features include audio commentary and liner notes, Spanish sub titles, closed captions, theatrical trailer, before-and-after restoration demo and a post card reproduction of the original movie poster.
