SEVERIN ANNOUNCES ACQUISITION OF
'Screwballs' AND 'Hardware'
Infamous 1983 'Sexploitation' Classic And 1990 Sci-Fi Hit
To Be Released On DVD For First Time Ever
LOS ANGELES, CA, May 20, 2009 – Severin Films today announced the acquisitions of the notorious 1983 'T&A' smash Screwballs and the 1990 sci-fi/horror cult classic Hardware. Both films will be fully restored for the first time ever on DVD in America, and will feature all-new Extras produced and/or acquired exclusively for these editions. Screwballs will arrive in-stores on August 25th, with Hardware scheduled for release this coming fall.
Screwballs remains perhaps the most relentlessly raunchy teen comedy of the '80s, the saga of Taft & Adams High – including campus virgin Purity Busch, chronic masturbator Melvin Jerkovski and blonde bombshell Bootsie Goodhead – and its incomparable curriculum of freshman breast exams, bikini cheerleader squads and inappropriate uses for bowling ball holes. Russ Meyer goddess Raven DeLaCroix (UP!) co-stars in this notorious drive-in classic that Mr. Skin hails as "the essential four-star epic of horny high school kids." Severin's disc will feature a slew of new extras.
Golden Globe winner Dylan McDermott (The Practice) stars in Hardware, the graphic post-apocalyptic thriller that marked the feature film debut of writer/director Richard Stanley (DUST DEVIL). Rock legends Iggy Pop and Lemmy of Motörhead co-star in this 1990 cult hit that Fangoria called "the best horror/sci-fi thriller since ALIEN." Originally rated X by the MPAA and subsequently edited by distributor Miramax, Hardware will be presented uncut and uncensored from a print supplied by Stanley himself. In addition, the Severin disc will include audio commentary, deleted scenes, behind-the-scenes footage, and Stanley's never-before-seen hour-long Super 8 version of the film.
"Both Screwballs and Hardware rank among the 'most-wanted' films of the DVD era," says Carl Daft, co-founder and CEO of Severin Films. "And in a year that's already seen Severin release THE SINFUL DWARF and Patrice Leconte's THE HAIRDRESSER'S HUSBAND, the acquisition of Screwballs and Hardware represent a proud new level in our dedication to preserving pop culture's most provocative films."
Severin Films was formed in May 2006 with offices in Los Angeles and London. The label's previous releases include the unrated Director's Cut of GWENDOLINE starring Tawny Kitaen, recent lifetime Goya Award winner Jess Franco's classics MACUMBA SEXUAL, Walerian Borowczyk's IMMORAL WOMEN, the two-volume limited-edition collections BLACK EMANUELLES BOX, and Enzo Castellari's original action classic INGLORIOUS BASTARDS, currently being remade by Quentin Tarantino.
