DVD Capture

DVD Capture, now updated to version 2.5, is a helper application for the Apple DVD Player. New features include enhanced improved file handling, DVD Player controls, improved settings retention and conversion to JPEG and cropping capability. It enables the user to take screen captures of the DVD Player Viewer in full screen mode in three different sizes. The captures can be saved to a file or placed on the clipboard. An AppleScript is provided for the DVD Player script menu that launches DVD Capture. Select "File" or "Clipboard" to assign a location for the capture. Mac OS 10.2 or higher required. May not work on all hardware configurations that are not G4-G5 Towers.

DVD Bookmarking

(Not yet updated for Panther, 10.3) DVD Bookmarking implements the capability of temporarily bookmarking a location in a DVD as a stay-open AppleScript Application that is controlled by compiled scripts run from the Script Menu. Included are the commands to Make Bookmark, Show Bookmarks, Clear Bookmarks, Save Bookmarks to File, Load Bookmarks from File, Take Captures of Bookmarks, and View DVD Info in Text Edit. Reading the Read Me is essential.

DVD Navigator

(Not yet updated for Panther, 10.3) DVD Navigator allows the creation of chapter catalog files for DVDs viewed on the computer. These files can be saved and used to access particular parts of a DVD quickly. Chapter names can be entered. AppleScripts can be written from DVD Navigator to the DVD Player Scripts folder that will allow navigation to chapters straight from the DVD Player. Mac OS 10.2 required.

Four Scripts for Previewing DVDs in DVD Player

Preview Chapters - A dialog allows the choosing of a title on a DVD. The chapters of that title are then previewed by showing the first 15 seconds of each. A dialog allows for choosing that chapter, skipping the chapter or going to the main menu. Preview Title - Previews a title on a disc in a unique way. A dialog allows a choice of titles and then a samples of various lengths are taken from the title. Select Title - Allows quick access to all the titles on a DVD. Title Chapter Chooser - Shows a dialog with a list of titles and then shows a list of chapters in the selected title. Mac OS X required.

Direct RSS

(Not yet updated for Panther, 10.3) Direct RSS allows the creation and maintenance of an RSS syndication file WITHOUT the requirement to have a web site. Many blog publishing tools come with the capability of creating an RSS file of the blog. The purpose here is to create an independent RSS file direct from the desktop. A file of this type is accessible in any one of the RSS reader and/or aggregators available. A recommended news reader is NetNewsWire from ranchero.com. Direct RSS uses the RSS 0.92 format and the generated file uses the 10 most recent posts in the History.

iCal Services Pack

(Not yet updated for Panther, 10.3) These scripts are made for running from the Script Menu but it is not absolutely necessary. Any program that can run compiled scripts can activate them, or they can be saved from Script Editor into applications. Consult the Help System on AppleScript for more information.

iCal Aid

(Not yet updated for Panther, 10.3) iCalAid is an example of a rapidly prototyped tool to fulfill a specific task using AppleScript Studio. The problem is the lack of scripting support in Word + Entourage Special Edition, which make easy transfer of calendar events from Entourage to iCal difficult. Also, the lack of recurring tasks in iCal, forces many tasks in Entourage to be entered as calendar events. iCal provides an easy to manipulate interface to float its window above Entourage 2001 running in Classic and a task and/or calendar list can be read and entered. The resulting information is sent to iCal.

Trigo Quotes

(Not yet updated for Panther, 10.3) Updated for MacOS 10.2, Trigo Quotes is an AppleScript Studio application for amusement that provides a year's worth of quotes from digitallyOBSESSED.com's mascot and budding Internet superstar. Available is an "Random" button that calls up a new quote. "Previous" and "Next" buttons allow for browsing forward and backward among the quotes. A "Speak" button has the computer speak the quote using the voice that has been selected in System Preferences > Speech. Clicking the "dOc! DVD Reviews" button will open the digitallyOBSESSED.com Home page. Requires MacOS 10.1.2 or better.

Show Calendar

(Not yet updated for Panther, 10.3) Show Calendar is a simple AppleScript Studio application that is a GUI front end to the Unix calendar application available in Mac OS X. Upon first launch and if the calendar file is missing, the application will alert that a calendar file needs to be created. By clicking on File > Create Calendar, a text file is created in ~/Library/. Under the Commands menu menu items to select the next three days from the current date, the next seven days, the next 14 days, the next 21 days and the next 30 days. Available in the application window is a text field in which to type a number and a button to click that will cause the calendar to look ahead that number of days. To view the entries for a particular date. use the popup buttons to set the date and click the button.

DVD Stopper

For OS X and DVD Player 3.x Only. This applet has only a small change to the loop movie applet that comes with DVD Player 3.1. Instead of looping the movie when it reaches the end, it stops the DVD Player. I made it cause I watch some DVDs and fall asleep while they play and then am awakened by some of the nightmarish loops that are used for menus.
