DVD Review

Lesbian sex. That is really what a Seduction Cinema release is all about, and this one is certainly no different from any of their other releases (Mummy Raider, Erotic Witch Project, Gladiator Erectus, for example). The sets may change, but the basic plot (lots of woman-on-woman sex) is always the same. Writer/director/svengali John Bacchus has once again assembled a gaggle of Seduction stars to engage in a series of extended sex scenes, only this time he has tried to introduce a subtle horror theme into the proceedings.

Vampire Obsession is the story of Wendy (Anoushka), a bleached-blonde prostitute who lives with her slightly deranged girlfriend (Darien Caine). Wendy meets an exotic, silicone-enhanced woman named Alexis (Jade DuBoir) in a cemetery (where all the good hookers work), and is soon drawn into some kind of sex and blood-drinking ritual that eventually escalates into murder. Despite the film's title, it's never made clear if Alexis is a vampire, or just plain kinky. Meanwhile, Wendy's jealous girlfriend slowly goes off the deep end, and spends the film cranking up the crazy meter.

In between the stunningly threadbare plot (which actually sounds much better than it appears) Bacchus fills the screen with what the faithful have come to expect from a Seduction Cinema film: undulating female bodies in a variety of sexual positions. The sex is steamy enough (hey, I'm no prude), but a little goes a long way and after awhile I found my eyes wandering around the room, waiting for the scenes to end. Did I actually stifle a yawn?

Production values are minimalistic, with much of the film taking place in what is obviously a hotel room. Most of the dialogue is nonsensical ("If I cut you, and it starts to hurt..." huh?) and is really only there to give the actresses the chance to take a break from more nude gyrations. I wasn't expecting a well-written film by any means, but I would have liked maybe just a little more plot development. I don't think Vampire Obsession would have suffered with one less sex scene.

Image Transfer Review: The 1.33:1 transfer has a soft, hazy look to it, but all of the attempted stylish shots can't disguise its low-budget video roots. Fleshtones look quite good (lots of 'em here, to be sure) and colors are bright enough. There isn't anything to really detract from what is offered, which is basically 75 minutes of lesbian sex.

Looks fine.

Audio Transfer Review: The 2.0 stereo track is clean, with no annoying hiss or crackle. Far from being an overpowering audio transfer, it handily serves its purpose, which is to relay the assorted moans of pleasure that dominate the soundtrack.

Extras Review: Seduction Cinema almost give Something Weird a run for their money when it comes to DVD extras. Aside from the fifteen skin-filled trailers on this disc, a behind-the-scenes documentary runs a heady 47m:24s. The documentary is low on insight, but high on flaunting the flesh of Anoushka, Jade DuBoir and Darian Caine, which is probably for the better. Director Bacchus is shown staging the numerous sex scenes while the women wander around nude, looking slightly bored. Worth a peek just for Caine's bizarre ramble near the end of the piece.

Final Comments

Vampire Obsession is another lusty lesbian romp from Seduction Cinema, and doesn't vary too much from their general formula; it has lots of female skin and prolonged woman-on-woman sexual encounters, and very little in the way of plot.

If you ever seen any of Seduction Cinema's other titles, then you've basically seen this one.
