New York, NY (February 23, 2011) – George Mallory was intent on becoming the first climber to reach the top of Mount Everest, but his 1924 climb would be his last, and his disappearance left the world in shock and disbelief. Almost eight decades later, Mallory's story takes a surprise twist, leading Conrad Anker in search for the truth behind the tragic tale, which continues to haunt and fascinate generations new and old. Featuring a stellar cast of voices by Oscar nominee Liam Neeson (Taken, Schindler's List, upcoming The Hangover Part II), the late Natasha Richardson (Wild Child, Asylum), Oscar nominee Ralph Fiennes (The English Patient, The Reader, The Hurt Locker), Emmy nominee Hugh Dancy (Black Hawk Down, Confessions of A Shopaholic) and BAFTA, Emmy and Golden Globe winner Alan Rickman (Harry Potter, Sweeney Todd, Die Hard), The Wildest Dream: Conquest of Everest sheds new light on a story fueled by love, adventure, and determination.
Heralded as An astonishing 90 minutes that whisks by as quickly as the Everest wind, by The Seattle Times, and An awe-inspiring, nail-biting climb, by The Philadelphia Inquirer,Virgil Films & Entertainment has teamed up with National Geographic Entertainment to present the DVD and Blu-ray disc premiere of The Wildest Dream: Conquest of Everest on Tuesday, March 15th, for a suggested retail price of $19.99 and $28.99 respectively.
Captivating audiences with its heart-palpitation-inducing vistas at 29,000 feet (The Washington Post), Director Anthony Geffen retraces Mallory's deadly climb while illustrating his powerful love story through letters interwoven with never-before-seen photos and film archives. Blended with personal accounts from Mallory's family, fascinating interviews and vivid re-enactments, the film creates a Breathtaking docudrama (Bloomberg) that everyone should see (Parade Magazine).
Bonus Features on DVD and BD formats include raw interviews with Anthony Geffen, Conrad Anker and Leo Houlding; information on the Khumbu Climbing Centre; and photo gallery.
Synopsis – The Wildest Dream: Conquest of Everest
George Mallory was obsessed with becoming the first person to conquer the untouched Mount Everest. He was last seen 800 feet below the summit in 1924, before the clouds rolled in and he disappeared into legend. His death stunned the world.
Seventy-five years later, climber Conrad Anker's life became intertwined with Mallory's after Anker found Mallory's frozen body with all his belongings intact. The only thing missing was a photograph of his wife, Ruth, which Mallory had promised to place on the summit. Haunted by Mallory's story, Anker returns to Everest with British climbing prodigy Leo Houlding to unravel the mysteries surrounding Mallory's disappearance.
