My Vietnam Your Iraq on DVD May 10...connects these two wars with little attention paid to divisive politics, choosing instead to focus on the personal stories of eight Vietnam veterans whose children have served in Iraq. The stories examine the pride, fear, and myriad of emotions and challenges that parents and their children face during deployment, each with their own perspective and expectations. Though the stories are unique to the individual families, these intimate profiles resonate with all of us: the stories of the men and women who fought and fight for themselves, their families, and their country.

PBS DISTRIBUTION PRESENTS AN INTIMATE LOOK AT MILITARY FAMILIES IN
My Vietnam Your Iraq

Winner, Best Documentary at the Hardacre Film Festival

Arlington, Va. – April 25, 2011 – The Vietnam War polarized the United States in the 1960s; decades later, U.S. involvement in Iraq initiated its own discord. My Vietnam Your Iraq being released on DVD by PBS Distribution, connects these two wars with little attention paid to divisive politics, choosing instead to focus on the personal stories of eight Vietnam veterans whose children have served in Iraq.

The program will be available on DVD beginning May 10, 2011. The DVD has a running time of 60 minutes, and a suggested retail price of $24.99.

Program Synopsis
This documentary, by Indiana University professor and Vietnam veteran Ron Osgood, highlights eight family stories, and in the process showcases the ethnic, gender and rank diversity among veterans who served in both wars. The documentary has no voice-over narrative or on-screen text and is told from the point of view of the participants. Osgood strived to find out how a parent feels when their child heads off to war and how parents may have conflicting feelings about their child entering combat.

Film Festivals
My Vietnam Your Iraq was honored as the best documentary at the Hardacre Film Festival. It was also an official selection at the GI Film Festival, the Sebastopol Documentary Film Festival, the Columbia Gorge International Film Festival, the Red Rock Film Festival, the DMZ International Film Festival in South Korea and the Heartland Film Festival.
