Arlington, Va. - February 3, 2012 - PBS Distribution today announced it is releasing Angelique Kidjo & Friends: Spirit Rising on DVD. A live concert special featuring Grammy Award-winning singer Angelique Kidjo, and special guests including Josh Groban, Dianne Reeves, Branford Marsalis, and Ezra Koenig (Vampire Weekend), this program will be available starting February 21, 2012. This 56-minute DVD has a suggested retail price of $24.99.



Program Synopsis
Hailed as "Africa's premier diva" by Time magazine, singer songwriter Angelique Kidjo embodies the spirit of Africa. She brings empowerment, joy, strength and love to her audience as she shares the richness and beauty of African culture through her vibrant music. In this special live concert, Angelique pays tribute to her childhood home of Benin, singing not only her own compositions but also familiar classics from rock and roll, reggae, R&B, funk, Broadway, and much more.

Filmed at the WGBH Calderwood Studio in Boston, Massachusetts, this concert showcases some of the most powerful and energetic performances in Angelique's repertoire to date. Along with featuring 12 songs, this DVD also includes bonus content - five additional songs and an interview with Angelique.
In addition to the DVD, the CD, Spirit Rising, will be available on February 21. The CD features 16 tracks, and is Angelique's first live album. The CD is being released by Razor & Tie.
