This critically acclaimed film received three 2012 BAFTAs (British Academy Television Awards) for Leading Actor, Dominic West; Leading Actress, Emily Watson; and Supporting Actress, Monica Dolan. Based on true events, Appropriate Adult tells the story of British serial killer Fred West (Dominic West, HBO's The Wire, BBC America's The Hour) and his relationship with his "appropriate adult," Janet Leach (Emily Watson, War Horse, Gosford Park). After volunteering as West's appropriate adult - a person from the community who assists vulnerable adults facing criminal charges - Janet finds herself sitting with West during his highly-charged police interviews.

Fred West began to view Janet as his confidante and often chose to disclose unknown facts about the scale and the nature of his crimes to her. At pivotal stages in the investigation, Fred deliberately misled the investigating officers. Aware from her private conversations with Fred that there were more victims to be found, Janet threatened to turn her back on the case unless he told the truth.
